District Attorney Puts Together Cases - And Race Cars

Courtrooms and racetracks may seem to have little in common, but District Attorney Philip Allen says there are a lot of similarities between putting together a case and putting together a race car.

Allen, the district attorney for Rockingham and Caswell Counties, should know.

From his college days through his first years as an attorney, Allen was connected with a racing team that traveled through this country, Canada and Mexico.

Allen recently bought the Alfa Romeo and though he says that since the design has changed on the newer models, he feels the older ones are much more pleasing to the eye.

"Now instead of working on a $100,000 race car, I have my Alfa to play with and it does require a lot of work," he said.

Although the car had been about three-quarters restored when he got it, Allen said the hardest thing so far in his restoration experience has been "details."
